Motorsport career

Robert Lechner began his motorsport career at the age of 12 in karting. After entering formula racing, he celebrated numerous victories and titles in Austria and Germany, was voted “Rookie of the Year” several times and, as one of the best young drivers of his generation, battled against later Formula 1 drivers such as Jenson Button and Mark Webber.

After a successful year as a Toyota works driver in Japanese Formula 3, Robert Lechner switched to the touring car scene in 2001. For the former Formula 1 team Zakspeed, he finished runner-up behind racing legend Johnny Cecotto in the spectacular V8 STAR series. Robert Lechner competed several times for Aston Martin in the endurance classics at Spa-Francorchamps and on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.

He took overall victory on this legendary race track in 2002 with Pedro Lamy and Peter Zakowski in a Dodge Viper. Robert Lechner contested his last 24-hour race in 2008 as a works driver for Aston Martin Racing in a DBRS9 together with Thomas Enge, Stefan Mücke and Karl Wendlinger.
