PSCCE season final in Brno – all champions crowned
The stage was set for the season final of the PSCCE at Autodrom Brno in the Czech Republic. A test day on Friday was a great chance for drivers and teams to prepare for the racing on Saturday when all championships would be decided. Some guest starters from Lithuania, but also from the Czech Republic like local Team Senkyr Motorsport und Josef Hrdlicka joined the field for this last race weekend of the season, so 14 cars made it to the grid. A Porsche Festival organized together with Porsche Czech Republic contributed to the entertainment of all car lovers within and out of the paddock.
Qualifying on a nice and sunny day started with Ivan Peklin setting pole position for the first Sprint race on track. But the Ukrainian still carried a three-place penalty from the last race and got another one for a technical infringement, as he changed tyres during qualifying. The same happened to Peter Brecka. So Peklin had to start from P7 in the end, while Richard Gonda from Slovakia inherited pole position ahead of Ulrich Ziegler and Eduardas Klepikas. The Lithuanian then was fastest in the second qualifying, followed by Germans Ulrich Ziegler and Herbert Geiss, the first three seperated only by less than two tenths of a second. In the AM category Peter Brunner from Swithzerland was fastest twice, qualifying in P6 and P4 overall respectively.
Richard Gonda then won the first Sprint race ahead of Ivan Peklin, who fought his way back to P2 from P7 on the grid. With11 minutes to go, he passed Ulrich Ziegler after quite a long fight. Ziegler finished just ahead of Klepikas, who received a three-second penalty for warming up his tyres too late, but had enough of an advantage to stay ahead of Beat Ganz and Herbert Geiss, who also had a close fight between each other during the race. The victory in the AM class went to Peter Brunner from Switzerland. Unfortunately Hrdlicka had a spin and had to retire in the pits, where it became clear that his car got damaged and he would not be able to further take part in the other races.
In Sprint race 2, it was all or nothing for Klepikas, who knew he had to win the race to become Sprint champion. And he managed to hold his nerves together, immediately took the lead at the start and pulled away from the field, finally winning 8.5 seconds ahead of Geiss. Ziegler crossed the finish line in P3, but due to a five-second penalty for a jump start dropped back to P4. So AM class winner Peter Brunner from Switzerland was able to even make it to the last step of the overall podium, and at the same time crown himself AM category Sprint champion.
Victory in the Endurance race, the 100 Miles of the Czech Republic went to Eduardas Klepikas and Tauras Tunyla. The Lithuanian pairing won the final race of the PSCCE season 2024 15 seconds ahead of Ulrich Ziegler and Jan Seyffert in P2. Klepikas already had reached an advantage of more than 4 seconds in the first half, which Tunyla managed to extend. For Herbert Geiss P3 was enough to win the championship. In a rather quiet and uneventful race, AM category local heroes Peter Brecka and Karel Neffe achieved a much celebrated win on home turf, but P 10 overall and P2 in the AM class was enough for Peter Brunner to win his second championship of the day.
Congratulations to all our PSCCE 2024 Champions!
