BWT Lechner Racing celebrates emotional home victory as Robert de Haan triumphs at the Red Bull Ring
BWT Lechner Racing celebrated a memorable home race at the Red Bull Ring with a commanding victory for Robert de Haan in Round 3 of the 2026 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season. In front of passionate home fans, friends, partners and supporters, the Austrian squad secured a well-deserved win while also demonstrating the pace to fight for a sensational one-two finish before heartbreak struck late in the race.
Starting from third on the grid, Robert de Haan delivered a flawless performance. With a strong start, the Dutch driver quickly worked his way up to second place within the first lap and was able to take the lead shortly before the end of the race. Managing the pressure perfectly throughout the 18-lap contest, he crossed the finish line to claim his first victory of the season and valuable championship points in front of the team's home crowd.
Marcus Amand looked set to complete a dream result for the Austrian team after producing one of his strongest performances of the season. Starting from fourth on the grid, the Finn made an outstanding start to immediately move into the lead. Showing impressive pace throughout the race, Amand remained firmly in the second position and appeared on course for a deserved top result.
With two strong starts, Robert de Haan and Marcus Amand led the race with pure dominance from the opening lap. However, disaster struck in the penultimate lap when Amand suffered a tyre puncture while running at second place. Through no fault of his own, the unfortunate incident dropped him down the order. Despite the major setback, Amand refused to give up and fought all the way to the finish to salvage 12th place and secure valuable championship points. His performance was ultimately not reflected in the final classification, but it underlined both his speed and determination.
Caleb Sumich completed another consistent weekend for the team. After a solid and composed drive, the Australian rookie crossed the line in 15th position, continuing to gain valuable experience in the highly competitive Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup field.
"After a difficult start into the season, being back on the top step of the podium feels really nice. The team and I worked very hard to achieve this and that gives us confidence for the next rounds. The car was really strong the whole weekend. A big thank you to BWT Lechner Racing. I can't wait to race again in Spa-Francorchamps." — Robert de Haan, Car #1
"First of all, congratulations to Robert on the victory. For him, for us as a team, and for all our friends and partners, it's an incredible result. At the same time, I feel equally sorry for Marcus. He drove a fantastic race with a great start and outstanding pace, and he absolutely deserved a top result. Unfortunately, the tyre puncture shortly before the finish was incredibly unlucky, but he still managed to bring home important championship points." — Robert Lechner, Team Principal
Overall, BWT Lechner Racing leaves its home race with plenty of positives. The team's pace throughout the weekend, combined with Robert de Haan's victory and the outstanding speed shown by Marcus Amand, provides strong momentum heading into the next round of the championship.
